I thought I'd throw this out to the SuSE list first, but... feel free to forward it elsewhere. I'm currently using a PC running SuSE as an install server for an older Sparcstation (LX) that's going to run Solaris. (and don't tell me to put Linux on the Sparc; I have some Solaris specific stuff it needs to run) I have arp/rarp and bootparams setup correctly (as far as I can tell) the bootparam entry is: inanna root=wormhole:/mnt/Solaris_2.6/Tools/Boot install=/mnt boottype=:in ns=:none rootopts=:rsize=1024 (wormhole is the server, inanna is the client that i'm trying to install) There appears to be some bug where Solaris's inetboot code (the boot block used for a network boot) doesn't like Linux's nfs or udp code. Here's a small fragment of a tcpdump. 23:50:03.976827 inanna.localdomain.61 > wormhole.localdomain.nfs: 116 read [|nfs] (ttl 255, id 0) 23:50:03.986827 wormhole.localdomain > inanna.localdomain: (frag 30209:900@7400) (ttl 64) 23:50:03.986827 wormhole.localdomain > inanna.localdomain: (frag 30209:1480@5920+) (ttl 64) 23:50:03.986827 wormhole.localdomain > inanna.localdomain: (frag 30209:1480@4440+) (ttl 64) 23:50:03.986827 wormhole.localdomain > inanna.localdomain: (frag 30209:1480@2960+) (ttl 64) 23:50:03.986827 wormhole.localdomain > inanna.localdomain: (frag 30209:1480@1480+) (ttl 64) 23:50:03.986827 wormhole.localdomain.nfs > inanna.localdomain.61: reply ok 1472 read [|nfs] (frag 30209:1480@0+) (ttl 64) Also, note that the rsize is not being honored somewhere.
