Load linux , nfs , then bo in and configure Sanmba , and your win95/8 machines with the ipaddress, thats it. Install linux in its own partion , as installing it ontop of dos is slow . I recently set up an old 486/66 w 8 meg ram as a samba file server , and was floored by its preformence. Using the same machine under dos w peer top peer was a dog. Here's the shit in a nutshell.
Client has NT 4.0 SP3 running with Back Office 4.0, and the server runs like crap. The server is mainly used for/as a print server and sharing files for your typical Win apps, such as Peach Tree, Office 97, global share directories, (for user data) etc. All of the client systems are running Win95, plus 1 NT workstation.
I realize Samba is necessary, but any other clues? The server should just do it's job and the clients could care less as long as everything hum's along. The printer is a HP 4 plus if that matters..., server is a P200 with 128MB ram.
