In my case, this file contained 2 screen sections, one SVGA and one ACCEL. Sax created both of these entries. Will X use the first one in the list or will X select the "better" one by itself? Hi people, I have a problem, that is costing me quite some headache... My box features an onboard ATI 3d rage pro chip. It works absolutely fine under windows. I can get X running, but i notice, that when i scroll text or images, my cpu- 0oes bam up to 100% as long as i'm scrolling. X generaly seems a little sluggish, even compared to the known redmond ressource hog. (I have a 266mhz box with 96 M's of RAM)
A friend pointed out to me , that i may have not set the clockchip correctly, so that X would fall back to some foolproof default. Since i can only see on chip saying ATI on it, i either presume it's built into the main graphix chip, or carrying some other name...
Also, when i look into my xfree config file, it has two entries: one SVGA and one ACCEL entry. Could it be, that i have two Xservers installed, of whom the first one in the list (SVGA) is called? Would that mean, that i can delete the SVGA entries, and X will then use the ACCEl server? Is there a way to find out, which server i am currently running, and which version of XFree is installed?
Is there a way to specify the Xserver to be used at the command line, for ex: startx afterstep -srv ACCEL , or something to that extent, so that i can still use the svga Xserver, in case something goes really bad?
What advantages do you have, if you upgrade to newer versions of Xfree? And, how do I uninstall the old xfree, in order to install the new one, if that would be the recommended path to take?
