Hi,
I'm about to purchase AMD64, ideally pin939 (or the older one if there is compat. issues), and the suse HWDB site doesn't really support the motherboards I am looking at - Gigabyte for this architecture.
Ideally I want SATA-RAID to work, but not bothered about inbuilt graphics et al, I just want the raw motherboard that'll give performance, and can always buy a supported AGP g/card, supported network card etc if necessary.
Has anyone had success / failure in trying this with SuSE ? & What about a different make of motherboard if that'll work (i.e. Asus etc) ?
I can't seem to find much on google re specific motherboards for AMD64/SuSE, so I'd appreciate if anyone could give me a pointer before I potentially waste money.
Thanks, Pete.
I am using the MSI K8T Neo FIS2R, with no issues of significance to me. Still with 9.0, YAST found everything easily, including SATA drives on the VIA chipset. I have not RAID'd them so can't report on that. I did find some conflicts with using the onboard Promise chip to run the SATA drives but don't use it now because the 2 drives attached to the VIA are more than sufficient for me. I do recall having some IDE issues with a previous Gigabyte board, with the ITE (I think that was the brand) chip not being recognized by YaST and not being able to get the source driver from their website to work. I was running 4 HD, RAID 0+1 at the time, plus CD, DVD so needed the extra ports. Finally returned the board. Recent BIOS update, to version 1.8 has fixed the MSI board's temperature readings and incidentally a couple of other things that I had not been annoyed enough with to pursue. Onboard NIC was setup by YaST, no onboard video, both good to me. -Richard
