My understanding from what I have read that MBR is not recommended for Win2K or NT, which Grove must have since it is NTFS. I also was not willing to take the chance with the MBR location of the Linux boot loader for Win2K.
My understanding is this: with NT, LILO can either be in the boot sector of the primary Linux partition (NT acts as boot manager, and thinks Linux is DOS), or in the MBR with the Linux partition spoofed as DOS within NT (LILO acts as boot manager). The SuSE Reference Manual details this. Win2K isn't mentioned AFAIK. Another alternative is to user a separate boot manager such as System Commander. I have had this on my desktop for years (long before I tried Linux), and it has proven completely reliable. Of course, it's an additional expense, but it does provide extensive recovery facilities in case something goes south. <g> Myself, I dislike booting with a floppy, so I'm willing to risk toying with the MBR. Others should do what they are comfortable with. Wonderful thing about the Penguin, you _really_ can have it your way....
