I'm running SuSE 10.0. I have a TrueType font file that I would like to install. Google turned up a couple of procedures but they looked very error-prone plus they had been there awhile and could be out of date. I thought there was a routine in YaST that would do what I want but I can't seem to find it. Can anyone point me to a practical and safe way to install a single TrueType font? My undying appreciation for a good answer.
There's some information on how to install TrueType fonts in the SuSE 10.0 documentation, it's in Chapter 35, a search under 'font' in KDE Help Center should find it for you. (that's if you're using KDE of course :) )
Seems to be just a case of copying the font (as root) to /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/truetype & making sure that the directory it's in is a subdirectory of the directories configured in /etc/fonts/fonts.conf
I've just tried it & it worked fine for me running SuSE 10.0 & KDE 3.5.2

In K Menu---->personal settings ----->system administration-->font installer. install as root for system wide. Works fine for me.
