Thanks for the answers. I would not like to erase and replace the .kde directory yet since it has too many options set up and would be a pain to reset everything again in a completely new environment.
Just a tip: the most important one (IMO) to backup and replace if you delete your ~/.kde is the kmailrc, since it contains your SMTP/POP settings. Since i no longer remember my SMTP passwords, and they're stored in kmailrc, i can't afford to lose that file ;). In my experience, the rest of the customizations can be re-set very quickly. Oh, and save your konqueror bookmarks.
Any other solution would be appreciated.
Think of "deleting ~/.kde" as "cleaning out the Windows registry" ;). Conceptually, it's not terribly much different.
In the meantime I reverted my kdebase packages to the last state that worked but did not help.
You can try replacing just the konqueror config files, but when i had this problem that didn't fix it. i nuked ~/.kde, restored my kmailrc, then went through the 5 minutes of work to reconfigure my kicker/desktop. -- ----- stephan@s11n.net http://s11n.net "...pleasure is a grace and is not obedient to the commands of the will." -- Alan W.
