Sorry Maureen for being so brief, I cannot really help you with Nero. However the md5 sum is a mathematical operation performed over each byte (bit) of a file. The result is so called md5 sum. It guarantees (more or less) the file consistency. So what it means for you? If you get a SW for windows which can calculate the md5 sum and you run it over your ISO image file you should get a number. In your case the number will probably be: MD5 (SuSE-8.2-LiveEval-i386-Int-RC2.iso) = 7f6a7e347067a5478f87e8948ed40177. If the number is exactly the same as the MD5SUM on the Suse's web site, then you can be pretty sure, that you have correct and uncorrupted file. When you are sure, that the file is OK, then you can start to look at how you burned it onto a CD. Using md5, you will save yourself a lots of time downloading the file again in order to be sure that it is correct. I believe, that you can download md5 utility for at: http://www.fourmilab.ch/md5/ The SuSE's md5 file is in: ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/suse/i386/live-eval-8.2/MD5SUMS Regards, Tomas Maureen Crothall wrote:
Maureen,
If you want to be sure, that what you downloaded yesterday, you should check if md5 sum available (for the ISO image) on the web site is same as md5 generated on your downloaded ISO.
Hi,
I checked that as you said and I even tried again this morning. Got a collection of coasters:O( It just will NOT burn as an image!!! Nero says it's burner an image but it doesn't come out as one. I am not techy at all and have no idea what that 'md5sum' file is and if it should be in the burn. If so, how? Thanks for your help.
Maureen.
