Why is it that now wmakers hot keys don't work in 13.1 when openoffice is running? And how do I fix this.
I'm talking about things like ctl-alt-left_arrow to switch desktops.
Ruben, with libreoffice-writer-3.5.4.13-4.11.1 and setting the keys back to the standard ctrl-alt-<left/right>[0] beforehand, it does work. But not in a VMware VM. Have you checked in WPrefs (e.g. Apps -> Appearance -> Preferences Utility) that those key-combinations are still active? Versions? 0.92? Tried without any KDE/Gnome stuff running? They might grab those key-combinations ...
Sometimes it returns control after I exit the program and sometimes it doesn't This behavior is particulary triggered when I tried to print from ooimpress...and I'm looking over my ps -auxw output and I have doezens of programs I never started running from the kde environment. When I printed with impress, I tried to print to a file. It then opened a filemanager window and asked me the name of my file that I want to print to. It is not well integrated at all. But aftert that....proof, Ctl-Alt arrows fail. Even resetting the preferences won't work. I was going to just remove KDE from the computer but it seems zypper doesn't like that. Ruben
Hmmm. ctl-alt-left_arrow doesn't change desktops while reading your email either.
Anton, for you are obviously ignorant of wmaker, or intentionally bashing on Ruben for using "desktop" when "workspace" would have been more precise, whichever way, you are such a sad sucker!
Ctrl-Alt-<left>/-<right> are the default combinations for switching workspaces in WindowMaker. And they work nicely. And, I just tested that, adjusting my keys to that default, it DOES work while reading e-mail with both Thunderbird and Seamonkey-Mail. Not that I use any of those.
And you _CAN_ actually switch from WindowMaker to e.g. KDE while reading your mail. WMaker can start other windowmanagers/desktops just fine. E.g. KDE:
==== ~/GNUstep/Defaults/WMRootMenu ==== [..] (KDE, RESTART, startkde), [..] ====
Just tried and tested that in a 13.1 VM. Started/resumed into a wmaker session. Started Seamonkey-mail. Called above "Start Other WindowManager -> KDE" menu-entry. Seamonkey-mail is now happily _still_ running under KDE and wmaker has stopped[1] running. Both xterms and seamonkey-mail just kept running as if nothing happened while KDE started. So, you _CAN_ switch desktops *WHILE* reading email! The only problem is, Desktops like KDE/Gnome do not offer a way back to e.g. WindowMaker while a) staying logged in and b) keeping all apps running but the windowmanager itself... Or actually starting any other desktop/ windowmanager. AFAIK.
That Gnome/KDE behaviour always reminded me of M$ and now of systemd. Embrace, extend, extinguish. And it's always badly executed.
So if you thought that switching desktops (and not just workspaces) was not possible: You're wrong!
Anyway, Anton, SHUT THE FUCK UP if you know shit about the topic! If you can't stop the urge to regurgitate irrelevant bull on everything in this mailing-list, go see professional help! And, while I'm at it, shut your fanboi blabbering and blatant plugs too! I'm really getting fed up with you.

[0] I use ctrl-tab / ctrl-shift-tab, which also has drawbacks / collisions. As I usually only use one workspace, I don't really care ;)
