Would it not be easier to just add users using the following script:
Cat /etc/passwd | mksmbpasswd > /etc/smbpasswd
After this you can just do: Smbpasswd userid Then it will ask for the password. Input the password. This will now setup the password in /etc/smbpasswd as an encrypted password. Now do smbpasswd -e userid. This should now enable that userid. For more security you can now delete out any and all users out of the /etc/smbpasswd file that are not needed. Hope this helps.
That's the common way I use to add users and their passwords.-) The problem is not just with the passwords, but with the passwords for the domain (for the shares everything is ok). ie: no client can logon the domain. every client (when it is configured not to logon the domain) can access to password protected shares with no problem.
