I have had the same problem for a while now. it has been one of those "I'll get to it someday" sort of problems. I tried just adding the vga line, but all it did was make my text smaller. But following the instructions from NKoli (26 Jan) I now have the lovely green splash screen back. Open terminal, su, mkinitrd, watch for the closing line (mine was 1024x768). Then edit /boot/grub/menu.lst and add vga=0x317 at the end of the kernel line. All is now green :-) Thanks Nkoli. Allen On Thu, 2009-01-29 at 00:54 -0600, JB2 wrote:

Menu.lst may not be to blame. Either vga is not set, you don't have a boot splash associated with your initrd or your splash image size does not match the size of the image grub expects to load. I'm going to assume your kernel is built to use boot splash.
If you run 'mkinitrd' as root, at the end, it'll list the boot splash theme and size. If it doesn't list splash, you can do 'mkinitrd -s 1024x768'
That mkinitrd -s thing fixed it partially, thanks! Read what it did in Dominique's post. Still get the text scrolling after the bootsplash screen though. :(
Getting there, but looks like you only saw half of my original message
:-) Other half says to add a vga entry to your menu.lst. Gud lock.
I did add it...all it did was make the scrolling text slightly smaller, didn't get me a nice screen with some small graphics while I'm waiting for the login screen.
