You would never do that. You're supposed to keep the private key secret and share the public key. Someone sending you a message would use your public key to encrypt it and then you'd use your private key to decrypt it. That's the whole point of public key encryption, so that it's easy to share exchange keys, without requiring secure means to do so. With public key encryption there are 2 keys and one can decrypt what the other has encrypted.
