Have a look at /usr/doc/howto/en/PPP-HOWTO.gz (less PPP-HOWTO.gz) About line 4441 describs the various options and scripts. I suspect that you need to use /etc/ppp/options.ttyXX files... lines 4376 onwards. Regards, Bruce
Further to my earlier post (see below) the error has now changed to "sorry, can't open modem" from Kppp after commenting out "lock" in / etc/ppp/options. User root can still dial out but all other users get the above error

I recently updated some KDE programmes via rpms and now none of my users can dial out kppp gives an error of "sorry can't create lock file".
User root *can* dial out, so I think I've screwed up permissions somewhere.
Can anyone put me right? System is Suse 6.1
