Although MS-DOS did introduce the .BAT file format, it is not referred to as a batch job. As its initiated by a human, and not by the computer. A batch job is initiated and run in the background.
First, .bat isn't a file format, it is a file name extension. Second, it has nothing whatsoever to do with IBM's Job Control Language, which is used to control and coordinate batch jobs on mainframes
