Turns out I didn't have the newest S.u.S.E. rpm of tk cause I was using 5.1. I didn't check and see that tk8.0 was available at the ftp site, and only got 5.2 recently. Sorry for the confusion (even if it's just my own :-)) Don't know why the new rpm worked though when I reinstalled tix <?>. On Mon, 31 Aug 1998, Michael Johnson wrote:

I just checked it: xrpm doesn't depend on tix.
Please, you guys, install a recent python package, which comes with the S.u.S.E. distribution; tkinter requires the tk resp. tk_new package -- YaST will take care of this dependency.
Thanx for the clear-up. I think I know what the mistake was on my end...at least that guy got his question answered. :-)
