Hi Folks,
So I thought about just buying a new printer, maybe one with a built- in scanner. The Brother MFC-L3780CDW looks nice, but will all the functions work with Leap? Does anyone have any experience with that printer?
I did a quick google search for linux drivers for this printer, and found one result on the Mint forums which says the drivers are already in Linux. However, not all functions are necessarily supported. That writer only mentions one such function, some toner saver. To get support for all such functions, you will need to use the drivers off the Brother website. Another writer on the Fedora forums says that scanimage detects the scanner function with the Linux-supplied drivers, so this is covered without resorting to the Brother drivers. I was unable to find anything openSUSE-specific, but I would expect if it works out-of-box with Fedora, it should also work out-of-box with Leap. My suggestion is to install the printer/scanner with the Linux-supplied drivers, then test out its functionality to see if there are any unsupported features you feel are essential for you. If there are, then grab the Brother drivers from: https://support.brother.com/g/b/downloadtop.aspx?c=ca&lang=en&prod=mfcl3780cdw_us_as Note that there is one rpm for the scanner that lets you scan using the scan button on the machine -- sometimes a very handy thing to have. I only ever tried it out once -- somehow it fires up xsane and scans your document with the push of one button. Very handy indeed.
