Hello,
In the Message;
This can be done in a virtual console, which is the usual way;
At the login screen;
1. Ctrl+Alt+F1 key OK
2. Log in as root OK
3. Execute
# init 3 OK but took over a minute to complete
4. Ctrl+Alt+F2 key OK
5. Log in as root, again OK
6. Exucute
$ startplasma-x11 > /tmp/plasama.log 2>&1 OK
Then, check the plasma.log.
marcslaptop:~> cat /tmp/plasma.log $DISPLAY is not set or cannot connect to the X server. Again no joy, I tried this with and without setting export DISPLAY="${DISPLAY:-:0}" in my /home/marc/.bashrc file and it made no difference. I also noted that /root does not have a .bashrc file, should I create one for root logins? Thanks again for your time, thoughts, and help. Marc..
