Morning all. Need to install a basic Linux server ASAP and would like to use Suse, but can't figure out how to install the basics (no GUI) without installing all the crap - ie the DVD won't let you choose anything without a GUI.
Depending on what you're trying to do, you can just install a GUI but run the machine without it (i.e. in level 3 instead of level 5). You can change that either at installation time or after in the /etc/inittab file.
The other option would be to select a desktop, doesn't matter which one you won't be using it, and when you get to the review of the configuration go to the software manager. From there you can remove the gui and add the other programs that you want if needed. I think all you need is core install.
Good luck.
Yep, thanks for that - sorted it out and have installed the base server, with some add-ons.... no GUI - great! I'm still really impressed with Webmin - an amazing product, and certainly a really handy tool, particularly if you aren't a 'command line guru!' And of Course - always forget to "reply all"!! - trying again..... -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
