Hi All, Thanks for all of your help. I did find out how to install it, but I had a lot of installation conflicts -- to many of them to want to wade through them all. Since my linux box is just a sandbox, I just reinstalled linux from scratch and chose gnome... I may try getting kde on here now that gnome is installed first. Thanks again for everybody's help... you were all great, Matt Greg Wallace wrote:

Hi,
I've installed SuSE 10.0 on intel hardware with the defaults. So, I have KDE. I'd like to try Gnome, but I can't figure out how to log into it as a desktop. On my logon screen, it is not one of the choices for an environment. Shouldn't the default install have put it there? If not, how can I install it and try it out?
Well the default install asks you for which desktop you want to install, it adds certain libraries from Gnome as there are various apps that you'd normally want even under KDE that require them. That being said, you can use YaST -> software management, to install gnome, check the GNOME System in the Filter: Selections. I t will install the needed packages and add gnome to the login type menu.
Or, under package groups, SYSTEM -- GUI -- Gnome
