that is the extreme of setting 'swapiness' to zero, which I've touched n. There's evidence that if you let it, if 'swapiness' is large enough, then Linux does what might be called 'pre-emotive' swapping, swapping out what it thinks you might not be using at some time in the future, maybe, perhaps.
