According to the readme the kernel RPMS from the mantel subdirectory of the SuSE ftp site have reiserfs support compiled into the kernel, not as a module. I don't know how recent a change this is. Therefore the reiserfs stuff doesn't need to go into the initrd. However, as I understand it (as a novice) the mk_initrd command checks to see what you need and includes it. I think it checks in the file /etc/rc.config looking at the variable START_INITRD. It does specify this in the readme mentioned above. Cheers, Mark

Has anyone succeeded installing the 2.4.12 kernel with SuSE 7.1? I tried yesterday, but when I rebooted after compiling it, the bootup froze at 'VFS: Root fs not mounted'. There were also error messages under the modules_install referring to unresolved symbols in ide drivers.
2.4.9 installed like a breeze with no problems, so I wondered if anyone experienced the same errors as me with the 2.4.12 kernel. I have tried it some times now, both the SuSE and the Vanilla edition, with no luck yet.
Regards,
Jostein
