I have done this a number of times over the weekend on a couple different machines. The best way I found to do it is either: A) remove all KDE1 packages except for: kbase, klibs & ksupp B) remove all packages then reinstall: kbase, klibs & ksupp followed by all of KDE2 that you feel you need. When I tried to also remove the above three packages then install KDE2, X failed miserably and would only launch a grey screen with a single term window, typing exit would exit it back to KDM, but even that was jacked up. The above is what I found worked the best. I would also recommend adding the following /opt/kde2/bin to your path section of your /etc/profile, /etc/profile.local or your personal ~/.profile file(s) so that things run a little cleaner when trying to access programs. Anyway, hope everything goes as well as it did for me once I did the above. KDE2 is running fine on all my computers as well as my parents computer. -- S.Toms - tomas@primenet.com - www.primenet.com/~tomas SuSE Linux v7.0+ - Kernel 2.2.17 But soft you, the fair Ophelia: Ope not thy ponderous and marble jaws, But get thee to a nunnery -- go! -- Mark "The Bard" Twain ----- Original Message ----- From: "Neville Cobb" <nevcobb@bigpond.com> Cc: <suse-linux-e@suse.com> Sent: Tuesday, January 09, 2001 2:56 PM Subject: Re: General Question on kDE Usage

I was just wondering how users are working with KDE1 and KDE2.
Do you have both running and use both?
Since I got KDE2, I removed KDE1 and things are smooth now. I only use
KDE2
now.
Are most working with KDE2 only?
Is KDE2 mature enough to replace all funcationality of KDE1?
I personally think so, it's stable and good looking.
Did you remove KDE1 first and then install KDE2, and did you install it with rpm commands? I'll have to get the latest downloads before I try this.
Do you have to delete all the other KDE type (anything starting with a K kind of) programs before installing KDE2. Any pointers would be greatfully received.
