Hi All, Prologue: I have a home wireless LAN built around a standalone router/access point from Belkin. The main PC (SuSE 8.2) is wired to the router via good old fashioned cable. Then there are two laptops - one (SuSE 9.0) using a Cisco PCMCIA card, the other (a Crusoe-based laptop running 8.2) a generic PCMCIA card with the Realtek 8180L chipset. The latter I had no problems getting working with the driver from Realtek's site (rtl8180_linuxdrv_v15_rh90.zip) after the usual "makefile tweaks, build, install, run wlanup script" cycle. Main event: So, when I needed to bring the fourth machine into the network - an athlon-based desktop unit running 8.2 but out of easy cable range - I got a Realtek 8180L based PCI wireless card from Startech (PCI511WB). The rtl8180_24x.o module built and insmod'ed no problem. So I proceed to bring up the card using the same steps that worked on the laptop.... except that on executing "iwpriv wlan0 enable" I get a kernel panic (in the binary portion of the driver, naturally!) The machine is running the stock 2.4.20-4GB-athlon kernel with latest updates. 1) Has anyone got positive experience running Realtek-based PCI (not PCMICA) wireless cards? I didn't find anything corresponding to my problem on the net, except for suggestiong to try ndiswrapper (which I plan to do) 2) I'm prepared to write off the card for now - does anyone have any recommendations for a PCI wireless (11Mps) card for use with SuSE 8.2? An increasing number of cards seem to be switching to Realtek which makes me apprehensive...
