Now here's an idea I've had for some time .... maybe the folks at SuSE would be interested in setting this up at their site. This idea would definitely bring traffic to their site - all Linux users would benefit - no matter what dist they use.
What would really be nice is if someone on a fast backbone were to build a "Kernel Compiler Web Site".
Users could, using a web form based upon various kernel revs, submit an order to the site, have a kernel compiled and either e-mailed or sitting in a 'pickup directory' once it's completed. The resulting kernel would be in a tar.gz file with a copy of the .config file you submitted.
I did see something similar already called doslinux. It is a mini-linux distribution with the 2.033 kernel, fits on 6 floppies, and runs on a dos partition under the UMSDOS file system.
It has 2 kernels , eide and scsi; and it has all the modules available to download.
You can get linux running with only about 15 megs of space.

The one question I would like to toss out, is what is the bare minimum system needed to boot with NFS support?
Besides the kernel, what configuration files are absolutely neccesary for linux to run? And what executables do you need? Of course bash, but what else?
You can get Linux to boot off of a floppy and mount it's root partion over NFS. I do not know how fast this is but can really expand the number of computers one can make useable. -- Andrew L.
