I am curious. What kind of modem do you have? Have you taken a look at your modem manual to see how to change the IRQ on it? Wvdial has just worked too well for me and I can't image that we can't get it working for you.
This is a Diamond Supra Express 336i PnP asvd. Love those long acronym rich titles, don't you? I have one on each of my machines. On one box, my BIOS is easily told to leave the PnP crap alone. The other board is nearly brand new and not so easy to fiddle with. I don't know yet if I can manually change the IRQ or not, but I am willing to try. I do remember this modem being VERY difficult to setup even under the "miraculous" Windows 95. In fact, I haven't heard anyone else mention this modem except to say they couldn't make it work in Linux. :/ Actually, Avery Pennarun from WVDial has just sent me an extensive set of options to try. I am of course short of time this weekend. I'm a photographer, so Saturdays are my game. I will stay in touch, Ken. You, also, have been extremely helpful. Thank you.
