Now, I have a remote accessible (only ssh) Suse Server running under 8.2 version. I have to install apache2 and php5 in this server but I found that the best solution is first to upgrade the version to a more recent. So I have questions: - can I upgrade the version from 8.2 to 11 without a risk of lost hand? - if it is not possible, what version I can to upgrade to at most? It seems that the minimal version available actually is 10.0 (is that right?) - and finally, where can I find a good documentation for newbie for upgrading (Open)Suse without losting hand on the server?
Try an remote upgrade as described at http://en.opensuse.org/Network_Install Try this on a local test system first to get a better feeling for the process. The local test system should be a clone of your working 8.2 system. This will at least provide you a good estimation of the real fun you'll have with the real systems. What's missing from the current approach is to use the existing ssh keys of the installed system. I've filed a feature request #305337: Use existing ssh keys while remote system update It is already possible to keep existing keys even if you perform an install. #300421: Import ssh keys from previous installations Lars -- Lars Müller [ˈlaː(r)z ˈmʏlɐ] Samba Team SUSE Linux, Maxfeldstraße 5, 90409 Nürnberg, Germany
