If you have suspicions or either the DVD drive or media you could use UNetbootin and make a bootable USB from the ISO you downloaded. I had a Toshiba laptop with a busted internal drive work just fine at install that way. On Thu, 2015-02-12 at 10:04 -0500, Anton Aylward wrote:

Is there any way to get more detail,
IIR from the last time I did a DVD install to a new HD, over a year ago, the other VTs, that is hot key -- on my system Alt+Fn but YMMV -- brought up various other screens. IIR one hgad a command prompt, one had some disk access info, and one seemed to be a detailed log of the install, not quite a syslog level.
You might try walking though the VTs to see if there is anything of use.
