And this way more people can comment on your problem. Another thing: you are using a mail program that breaks threading: it removes / does not respect "In-Reply-To" and "References" headers, and thus your emails appear disconnected from previous posts to the same thread. It would be better to use another one that does, at least in mail lists.
That's the fix... but I don't see clearly what is the problem, the symptoms :-?
Carlos -- thanks -- I guess I am curious *why* this is happening -- what am I doing wrong? Or what is going wrong with the process (mkinitrd or whatever).
To clarify the problem, symptoms: On a set of identical machines, making a change to the initrd (via mkinitrd, either adding a driver or an updated driver) causes a subset of the machines to hang on loading the new initrd and not on the balance of the set (The details should be available from my original post, but I hope I have included everything you might want to know).
Ah, ok, I understand. No error messages, just hang? You could leave the verbose boot screen on by default to find out. I think that initrd is read by the boot loader, ie, grub or lilo, and it uses the bios functions to do this, as the kernel is not running yet. So, things to check could be: Is the bios updated? Is that file about the same position (track number) in the HD? Perhaps having a separate ext2 /boot partition, below track 1024 would help - or perhaps not. You could find out if there is a correlation in bioses versions/releases. Another idea could be to check if the other boot manager (lilo / grub) works better in your case. - -- Saludos Carlos Robinson -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.4.0 (GNU/Linux) Comment: Made with pgp4pine 1.76 iD8DBQFDr9gvtTMYHG2NR9URAjRHAKCQGJhgd9rvyLpkx4F77w8I2qdXVgCeMpnu g5+4uJSp3QVPmAqepz3B3DA= =vmGA -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----
