I have a DVD and a CD R/W (which may well be junk). Both of these are IDE devices, but they claim to be SCSI. That's all fine with me, if they work. Back in the old days, it was possible to view the music file on a CD-ROM. I want to copy a few song files onto the hard drive. I was expecting to be able to brows the CD-ROM with Konqueror and do a drag and drop, or at least do these things from a command prompt. This doesn't seem quite as straight forward as I expected it to be. Another thing I can't figure out is how to play music from the DVD. The DVD is /dev/sr1, whereas the CD-R/W is /dev/sr0. I have a problem with the CD-W/R in that it has a tendency to jump to a different track in the middle of a song. I don't know if this is a mechanical problem, a bios problem, or a driver problem. I don't have the patience to stay in XP long enough to test the CD-W/R for long enough to determine if the problem manifests itself there. So I have these questions: 1) How do I view and copy the files on a music? 2) how do I use the DVD drive to play music. (I just realized, I may need to hook up the wires to the sound card. I don't know if I have a second jack to do that with. 2a What do those stupid little wires you connect between the soundcard and the CD-ROM or DVD actually do? 3) Has anybody had a similar problem with a CD-ROM or CD-W/R jumping from one track to another? 4) Can I play music directly from a harddrive?
