Hi, For those who might have the same problem: only Kde2 background and welcome sound, nothing else, no icons, no taskbar etc...: The problem for me was related with qt-experimental. Doing rpm * installed everything and qt-experimental wiped out the qt-2.2.4-20 rpm. I do not know why. So I removed qt-experimental and reinstalled qt-2.2.4-20. That's it, everything came up, icons taskbar etc...No more DCOP communication error. Filip. Le Vendredi 23 Mars 2001 13:31, vous avez écrit :
Hi Marcel,
No, I just updated to XFree 4.0.3, KDE2.1 was already running before. Ciao, Filip.

Hi,
Last night I upgraded to 4.0.3 on my 2 PCs. Upgrade from the one I'm writing from went very smooth. The other one is trouble : 1. Used the same files I downloaded, so no broken files. 2. The login background ( suse logo ) comes up without the login box and the crashes after a while bringing me to console in init 5 mode. 3. startx or startkde gives me just the red or blue screen without anthing on it, indicating xserver is working, and I can hear the welcome sound. Nothing else is displayed. 4. The error displayed : ERROR : KUniqueApplication : DCOP communication error! 5. yast1 tells me no wm found. Looking in rc.config I have displaymanager=kdm, default_WM=kde and check_inittab=yes. 6. So there must probably be a link broken for the window manager.
Any clue where I have to look ?
Did you install a new version of KDE? I had those DCOP problems when upgrading from 2.0.1 to 2.1. Try to (re)move your .kde* directories. This looks like a KDE problem to me ...
Thanks in advance, Filip.
Ciao, Marcel
