If I buy a ECC memory machine, will ECC-added-value be used "out of the box", without configuration on OpenSUSE (no SLES) ?
Hi Dsant, To the best of my knowledge, ECC is handled by the hardware, and is transparent to the operating system. I recall that there are configuration options in the BIOS setups. At least I've never done anything special on ECC systems. You can also see if you have ECC by running this: dmidecode --type 16 This program should be in the standard openSuSE distribution. There's more here: http://www.pugetsystems.com/labs/articles/How-to-Check-ECC-RAM-Functionality... BTW, Puget Systems is a very good "boutique" computer vendor. I've purchased desktops from them and their service and support is excellent. I remember that they even emailed a jpg of one of the boxes they were building for me so I could keep informed and maintain my high level of excitement. The most recent systems I bought are really sweet! The CPU is fluid cooled with plumbing going to a back-mounted large low-rpm fan on a heat exchanger. Very quiet!
