Hi,
I am curious. What is the currently preferred CD ripping software?
Years ago I used "grip", a gnome tool. Then it died, and I asked here. I tried the suggestions, and I finally used "audex". Problem with audex is, it is kde 3.
I also know about asunder, abcde. Even k3b can do it, I hear.
asunder does not do MusicBrain searches, only cddb.
k3b can not configure the ripping, but cddb search works.
audex fails to find the tracks in cddb (actually gnudb.gnudb.org).
Some other nice and modern GUI tool for ripping CDs?
abcde works fine for me. It downloads the metadata automatically. It can also rip into multiple formats at once. I use this command: abcde -o "ogg, flac" -p
The possibility of being able to encode to two formats in one go is nice, I like that. But really, I prefer a GUI for this job and not having to study a long manual to select my preferred options. I'm curious. What do you do when it fails to locate the CD in the cddb database? Ah, I see: cer@Telcontar:~/Music/abcde> time abcde -o "ogg, flac" -p Grabbing entire CD - tracks: 01 02 03 04 05 06 07 08 09 10 11 MusicBrainz lookup returned an error "Not Found" Selected: # (template) (Unknown Artist / Unknown Album) ---- Unknown Artist / Unknown Album ---- 1: Track 1 2: Track 2 3: Track 3 4: Track 4 5: Track 5 6: Track 6 7: Track 7 8: Track 8 9: Track 9 10: Track 10 11: Track 11 Edit selected CDDB data [Y/n]?
