My preference is to have one instance of Konqueror in web browser mode, and open all links in tabs in that one instance. I'm not talking about Konqueror in file manager mode, here.
I thought the following would achieve what I want, but it doesn't :(
Settings: Configure Konqueror: Web Behaviour: Tabbed Browsing:
Select: 'Open links in new tab instead of in new window'
I mean the kde menu on the bottom left of your desktop, left hand side of the kicker panel, the one you use to start applications. You are referring to konquerer settings. I am referring to the kde settings.
Yes, I know. Whether I get to tabbed browsing from Konqueror's Setting menu, from KDE menu Control Centre or from KDE menu Settings (under Actions) it ends up displaying the same page with same data as I entered previously. They are not different animals.
Advanced Options:
Select: 'Open as tab in existing Konqueror when URL is called externally'
When I click on a link in Kmail or Knode a new instance of Konqueror gets fired up with a single tab containing the URL I clicked on, even if there is another instance of Konqueror already running in web browsing mode.
What am I missing? --
Try KDE menu personal > settings > internet & network > web browser > web behavior > open links in a new tab
That gets me to where I was before (see above) by a slightly different route. All the settings I described in my original post are as they were.
If you want to keep konqueror's view under settings save view profile
If you start konquerer as a web browser, it uses the web browser profile but if you start konquerer as a file manager it uses th file management profile. This could be what is happening, you have started konquerer the file manager and when you click on a web link konquerer the web browser is starting as well. Try starting the first konquerer from the internet menu and see if that works. Make sure your kde settings are correct as well.
I have different profiles setup for web browsing and file management. For example, I do not want to see the bookmarks toolbar in file manager mode. So, I just started Konqueror from the Internet menu, and it opened at my home page, as expected. In Kmail, I went to the thread near this one called 'New game release includes a linux version', and clicked on the link referred to. A new Konqueror window opened, not a new tab in the existing Konqueror. Grrr. I'm sure Firefox does what I want, but I happen to want Konqueror as my default browser. -- Bob Registered Linux User #463880 GPG-FP: A6C1 457C 6DBA B13E 5524 F703 D12A FB79 926B 994E openSUSE 10.3, Kernel 2.6.22.17-0.1-default, KDE 3.5.7 Intel Celeron 2.53GB, 2GB DDR RAM, nVidia GeForce 7600GS -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
