Not to be negative, but why are you using ALSA instead of the included modules? ALSA is a little immature (perhaps it will be ready for k2.6 or k3.0), and not terribly reliable. Have you talked about this over on alsa-user? If amixer shows the mixer, then any other mixer should (theoretically) see it as well.
