I added the modem as the second serial port (DOS=>COM2:). This is /dev/ttyS1 on my system. Assuming that your modem is on the second serial port, it sounds right. I ignored the modem inits. The defaults were good enough. You have installed suseppp?
..and onbootup it tells me there are no such files as: //tmp/suse_ppp$$$..or...tmp/suse_ppp$$$/diald
Did you use yast or set up the files by hand? Yast does a fairly good job (with some slightly annoying exceptions). You just need to remember to set up basic networking first and then configure PPP. Also, as far as I can tell from the poking around I did, if you don't live in a German speaking country, just use "generic" as the name of your ISP.
do i need diald for ppp? and if so how do i get the diald properties to show up???
You don't need diald, but since I live in the US and don't have to pay for connect time (I would still trade this for reasonable ISDN rates), I configured diald to bring up the connection when my computer comes up. It then tries to keep it up all the time. Works for me. However, there is a bug in the scripts that set up diald. They don't copy all the config files correctly to the right places. Look in the SuSE help database on the SuSE website. They have a note on it.
