A friend gave me his used laptop and I am interested in installing my SuSE 7.1 onto it. The problem is that he gave it to me "as is" which includes the fact that the space bar and 'M' keys do not work. I know there must be a config file for keyboard mapping. I would like to re-map a seldom used key (like the Windows function key) to act as the space key and possibly the F12 key for the letter M.
Use the program 'xev' to figure out what keycodes you want to map. So to change keycode 113 to space, you would do: xmodmap -e 'keycode 113 = Space' And if you want to do it permanently, put keycode 113 = Space in your .Xmodmap file. Another example is this one, which I use to remap Caps-lock to CTRL. From my .Xmodmap (can be found at http://mmj.dk/conffiles): clear Lock keycode 66 = Control_L add Control = Control_L -- Mads Martin Joergensen, http://mmj.dk "Why make things difficult, when it is possible to make them cryptic and totally illogic, with just a little bit more effort." -- A.
