First off, thanks everyone for your responses, I got StarOffice3.1 from a CD Distribution which came with a magazine. The distr. is
RH
5.0 based, and it included various files for StarO 3.1 (tar.gz'ed) and an install script.
Now, I ran the script (instalar) and I got StarO (installed?) on /opt/StarOffice-3.1. It also gave me a list of commands (scal3, schart3, sdraw3, simage3, smath3, swriter3) and a warn: To execute, type from an xterm.
Tried to run swriter3 from the prompt... but didn't work. Then tried to run a setup command within the above mentioned path and got this: StarOffice3.1 Installation Tool - -X11TransSocket UNIXConnect: Can't connect: errno = 111 could not open display
Then tried opening the x-windows, and found the prog there... but couldn't execute it: The StarOffice3.1 script /root/.sd.sh is missing. Normally this means that StarOffice is not installed or configured for this user. Check this fact please. I'm aborting now.
Ok, I've seen a "sd.sh" (and another *.bsh, or so) file within /opt/StarOffice-3.1 what's the ".sd.sh" (notice the starting dot ".") about? is it a link or s'thing? how am I supposed to install a program which doesn't come with the distribution?
Thanks in advance,
Horacio.
If I remember correctly, you must type:
source ~/.sd.sh (this assumes that the current user has this file in their home directory, otherwise use the correct path) /opt/StarOffice-3.1/bin/swriter3
I don't recall how to automate this, but it was a common problem.
That
will hopefully help until someone gives the correct answer. ;-)

I type "~/.sd.sh" from the command line and get: "bash: /root/.sd.sh: No such file or directory" Perhaps I should add that I don't see ".sd.sh" nor ".sd.csh" in any directory. Then I try "/opt/StarOffice-3.1/linux-x86/bin/swriter3" (which is the path where "swriter3" is located) and get: "_X11TransSocketUNIXConnect: Can't connect: errno: 11 could not open display" I've been looking for help at the StarOffice URL, but nothing is available (except for a small faq). Can anyone help me configuring StarOffice3.1? Gracias, Horacio. PS. If it's of any help, "sd.sh" and "sd.csh" are located in "/opt/StarOffice-3.1" -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: PGP 5.5.5 Comment: Key IDs: DH/DSS 0x614DB9FA RSA 0x160B1B5B iQA/AwUBNWLAkHR1WuG6Ow0hEQIGXACeKpxW0cK+Fd+d5TQG9mAXVzkZv+YAoIDP WFyHh5wTxuaiId+3ePBgRQQM =teUw -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- -- To get out of this list, please send email to majordomo@suse.com with this text in its body: unsubscribe suse-linux-e
