I tried this on Tumbleweed, it may or may not be a Suse or`even a Linux issue.
For USB tethering there is a switch to turn ON, once ON the comnputer is supposed to recognize it and net browsing may begin (the way I understand it no other action being required). I don't know if NetworkManager would show the usb cable or what? It shows nothing, and there is NO internet given to the computer (wifi hotspotting DOES work).
However, when I next turn the USB Thethering switch OFF then I get a popup asking if I want to allow the phone to share data with the computer. Clicking yes opens a file manager & data transfer becomes possible.
The first procedure is documented but doesn't work, the second one isn't but does.
Any ideas?
I have a Pixel 6 and Leap 15.4. I just connect the USB cable and then go into the phone settings to enable USB tethering. The computer then automagically connects with DHCP. Works fine.
I have often tethered my computer and use USB if I expect to be connected for a while or Wifi tethering if for a short time.
It's ME, I had all my fingers up the stack right up to the armpit again Yes, NetworkManager DOES the job quite well, the problem was that as I attached the USB cable and the NetworkManager popup asked me what I wanted to do with the device the phone meanwhile popped up a "gimme permission" of its own which I didn't notice. Problem fixed, I now watch the phone and hit "Allow" before going to the computer :-) Sorry for the acute distress caused to all :-)))
