It takes about 15 hours on the PII 450 I have here at the office so your machine will probably take 24 hours. If you've got a decent amount of memory, that will make it quite a bit faster. Set it running one evening and it'll be done when you get home from work/whatever the next day. It really does help to compile it yourself because you can use the compiler flags which suit your system. Switching exceptions off, optimisations on and the correct CPU type on the compile line makes for a dramatric improvement in performance. <p>> A few hours on your system...
That would be way too long on my old P200... I was thinking about switching, but I guess I'll have to wait for SuSE...
It's pretty easy as long as you understand the basics of compiling big chunks of code. You'll need some spare time though - it takes several hours even on my dual PIII machine.
