No, I'm talking about external sata drives, ie, on e-sata cables. If they are not powered, sata1 gets the name /dev/sda. If they are powered, eSATA-1 is named /dev/sda instead, but machine still boots from sata-1 as it should.
The only difference between eSATA and SATA is the interface cable and the signalling levels. What you seeing is normal, AFAICT.
I'm not talking about the possible difference of (e-)sata. I'm talking about the same disk, labeled sata1 in the mobo, is sda or sdd if another different cable has the disk connected or not. If my fstab, grub, etc were using /dev/sda names, my system would not be bootable everyday. - -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R.
