To me the video/monitor is a very important component especially if I am spending 10-12hrs a day on my machine. I sunk $1500 in a nice 21inch monitor, so at the time I thought the Diamond Viper was the video board to use. If I want the best resolution, most compatibility, no-headache video board, what does everyone recommend?
I spend about 75% of my time in xterm's and like to have several available on a single desktop. I run a minimum of 1280x1024, I do not really care about 3D performance but if a card can provide at all, what the hell.
Also, what is the best quality sound card to use? I am currently using an Ensoniq from a Dell PC, it sounds like shit when playing MP3's. (These MP3's are 160k and sound fine from a Windoze box) I was using the kjjukebox, could this be the problem?
Thanks for any info, CC
These are my current recomendations, in order: Matrox G400 or 450 (as long as you don't want tv-out right now). Get the newest utilities for Linux, meant to be awesome. Nvidia Vipers I am sure people will add: MP3's, sound ok on Win'doze, but mot Linux? Hmmm, try xmms and hear if there is a difference.. Matt
