I remember being quite fond of the detachable menus in KDE when I first tried linux (redhat 7.2 iirc) but I found the rest of the linux experience a bit too much at the time.

Does anyone know how I could do this?
I don't share your fondness for this GUI scheme, but here's how you access detachable menus: Look for the gnurled texture at the left or top of a menu or tool bar. Click and drag from that area and the menu or tool bar will detach and float. Alternately, you can double-click that area to get a floating menu or tool bar. Double-clicking the drag bar of the floating tool pallete will reintegrate it into the main window from which it was detached. Lastly, in many cases dragging these bars can also be used to establish alternate positions (top vs. left, e.g.). This is signified by a change in the shape of the outline that tracks the mouse as you drag.
Thanks in advance.
