Both driver filesets are being loaded, hence a conflict. And yes, nouveau does not perform as well as nvidia (at least with the various cards I have used), particularly if compositing is used. Nouveau is loaded by default unless the kernel is instructed to not do so (i.e., blacklisted).
Yes, I know that. I never thought I'd come to this situation since I thought the nVidia drivers were gone after my "rpm -e" of everything containing "*nvid*". The driver files are still present in the update directory in /lib/modules, though - and rpm tells me they don't belong to any rpm package. I better check next time. I'll remove those nvidia kernel files and restart the pc, since I found that rmmod'ding may cause problems, even when there is no X server running. And I will blacklist the nvidia driver :) Werner -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
