Which means that your system *really* needs swap. The thread is long, I still have not seen your figures. But as far as I can see from what I have read so far, attempts to reduce swapines will make the situation worse in your case. And yes, your system bogs down as more swap is used, because modern swap can not cope when set on rotating rust. You need to move it to an SSD disk. [...] Ok, read the entire post, no figures. Please do this. Open "top" in a terminal. Press 'f'. Make sure that the "SWAP" column is enabled. Move to the line "SWAP = Swapped Size (KiB)", press the "SPACE BAR" to activate, then "right arrow" to highlight, then up arrow to move to a suitable place, like just below "SHR = Shared Memory (KiB)". Then go to the " RES = Resident Size (KiB)" line and press "s" (changes sort order). 'q' returns to the normal display. "W" writes the configuration changes (to .config/procps/toprc; just delete to restore defaults). That way, top will display heavy memory users. Then, copy and paste here the first dozen lines. My guess: you are simply using a lot of memory. The system frees ram by sending it to swap, so that you "see" free ram. You are using Mozilla apps, more than one. They use LOTS of ram. Simply restart them at least once a day. You also use Chrome. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from 15.1 x86_64 at Telcontar)
