I don't know if this is an OpenSuSE or an Opera thing but I don't have this problem on Xubuntu, Arch, Nor PCLinuxOS... So I'll start here...
I just installed opera on OpenSuSE 11.3 (x86_64) In case it's something to do with a bad repository you can check out the attached zypper ar output.
And anyway it's insisting on using a bizarre font for several pages including my own simple "local file" home page for which I never defined fonts or styles what so ever... I checked all the fonts listed in:
tools->preferences->advanced->fonts
and the closest thing to wierd was the setting for "font family fantasy" which was set to impact. which while I also find that hard to read didn't resemble the crappola I'm getting from opera. And anyway I changed that setting to Edmunds (which I have no problem reading) but it didn't have any effect. I tried going to:
tools->preferences->advanced->content>style options->presentation mode
And one at a time I tried switching between author and user mode as well as disabling "page fonts and colors". And when that didn't do anything I tried disabling "my fonts and colors". Nothing makes any difference.
To see the diff between how opera and firefox renders this page, check out the screen shot at:

Can anybody tell me how to fix this??? I normally use opera more than firefox. But this is just, well awful... Try renaming your profile. I had the same problem a while back.
