fstab question

Suse 8.2 What is /dev/shm? I'm pretty sure I didn't ask for anything to go there. the fstab entry looks like: shmfs 63180 0 63180 0% /dev/shm What the heck is this thing? I've never seen it before, but I haven't done too many installations in the past. -- You definitely intend to start living sometime soon.
