Gimp-print are a separate bunch of higher-quality drivers - I don't think they work on as many different printers as the standard Foomatic CUPS drivers, but they provide noticeably higher quality output. To use them in CUPS, simply compile them with the --with-cups flag. cheers, Gideon.
