DV6000 system with gnome2 and opensuse 11.4
That is a really old and really unsupported version of the OS
Not sure why sound is out. Sound works in test user and other os. Without moving all dot directories and dot files I am not sure where to look. I tried moving .gconf .gconfd .gnome2 and .gnome2_private still no sound. it also messed up evolution. I have checked the online suse references apparently no one documented a sudden sound loss.
So which dot file or dot directory is the culprit?
Maybe none, back then you may have still needed your users in the "Audio" group the way this is done has changed multiple times and I don't remember which would have been correct for 11.4 but the one we use now certainly didn't exist yet. Which other OS's have you tried and were you using your home directory with them and did you open evolution? If so its possible you opened your config files with a much newer version of evolution, which did some form of migration that the old version now does not understand. Normally i'd suggest that you do a reinstall with the latest version of openSUSE for a bunch of reasons including getting security fixes, however if the laptop is what I googled it probably won't run the lastest version of gnome well, so you might want to consider swapping to XFCE, Mate, LXQt or enlightenment. -- Simon Lees (Simotek) http://simotek.net Emergency Update Team keybase.io/simotek SUSE Linux Adelaide Australia, UTC+10:30 GPG Fingerprint: 5B87 DB9D 88DC F606 E489 CEC5 0922 C246 02F0 014B
