Hi! Read the gpg or pgp manual about the distinction between trusting the key and trusting the owner. Shortly: you trust the key, if you have signed it, or it is signed by a key you trust. This means, you are sure the key really belongs to this person. you trust the owner, means you trust the owner to certify the keys of other persons. Only makes a difference if you alread trust the key ... it's about "transitive trust". The manual should tell you more, especially the one from Phil Zimmermann personally.
