I perceived the same thing until I replaced my system's mechanical hard drive with an SSD. System: 2.0GHz Core2Duo w/ 4GB RAM & 512GB SSD & 512MB GeForce 9300M Environment: openSUSE 13.2 & KDE 4.14.9 (64-bit) The performance difference has been profound in boot and application loading times as well as when loading / searching very large files.
